Laptops/Computers: The entire movie is shot on a laptop screen with social media tools like Facebook page, Skype chat, and YouTube videos switching back and forth instead of usual movie that is actually shot at a physical scene. As a result, the modern technology like laptops and computers plays a significant role in the whole movie.
Online chatrooms (Skype): In the movie, ninety percent of the whole story is presented through the video chat on Skype. First, the unknown protagonist “billie227” intrudes the group on Skype video chats and then sending disturbing message and photos through Skype and it is actually by shooting the movie on Skype chatting room that makes movie more attracting.
Social medis (Facebook): In the movie, all the sins starts at Val posting the humiliating video of Laura on Facebook and the comments under the video that thinks Laura deserve this. Later on in the movie, the unknown protagonist “billie227” is using Facebook to make fun of the group by posting disturbing photos of on each ones Facebook accounts.
Video sharing sites (YouTube/LiveLeak) In the movie, Val published the humiliating video of Laura on LiveLeak, which is a site that allows users to upload, view, rate, share videos. Though Laura asked Val to take off the video from YouTube, Val refused to do so. In the movie, the functionality of YouTube and LiveLeak plays an crucial role such as it makes cyberbullying a lot more easier to happen.
Chatroulette: Chatroulette allows people to randomly chat with people around the world. The protagonist Blaire use this online chatting to get help for Jess, who got really panic when her room lights are suddenly shut down. Blaire asks for help sending police to Jess’s address. Blaire is using this to get help from police is that Adam tried once to connect to the police but this unknown user was able to get into it and stopped Adam from getting help.
Anti-Trojan software: After some unsuccessful attempt to kick “billie227” out of the Skype group chat and the accident happened to Val, the whole group has become aware of the danger brought by this unknown user, thus Ken decided to use an anti-trojan software to get rid of this evil glitch. Although Ken successfully uses the anti-trojan software to remove “billie227” from the group chat, this unknown user returned later on.
